Late one night in a drafty wooden shed in Paris, the oil lamp sputters out just as a fresh delivery of ore arrives, stacked in a wall from the floorboards to the rafters. Pixel Marie Curie has no intention of waiting until morning. She picks up a wooden sorting tray and a little marble with a gentle green glow, and the night shift of Ore Shed Glow begins.
The marble lights up only a small circle around itself and the tray carries a faint glow of its own, so every block has to be found by following the light. Now and then a page of her lab notebook flutters loose from the rafters, well worth catching before it lands in the dust. Drop the marble three times and the night is over. How much ore can pixel Marie sort before sunrise?
