Thought Express

Couple the travel cards before the night train leaves. Wait for the night train in an old railway station with pixel Albert Einstein. Turn two cards at a time, pair up locomotives, pocket watches, lanterns and violins, and keep a streak going in this free memory game.

Twist: Pairs in a row without a miss multiply the points up to ×5, so one slip costs the whole chain.

Parody. Albert Einstein has no involvement in making these games and does not endorse them. The character is an original pixel-art caricature.

How to play

  1. Click or tap a card to turn it over, or move the cursor with the arrows (WASD) and press Space or Enter. Turn two cards: if they match, they stay face up.
  2. Pairs found in a row without a miss multiply the points: the second scores ×2, the third ×3, and so on up to ×5. One miss, or a new grid, starts the chain again.
  3. Each pair is worth 20 points, plus 5 for every level, before the chain multiplies it. A cleared grid adds 50 points and 5 more for each second left, then a bigger grid is dealt.
  4. Two different cards turn back after a moment, so try to remember them. The round ends when the clock reaches zero.
  5. M switches sound, P or Esc pauses, and you can share your score at the end.

The story

The night train is late, the station clock ticks loudly and the waiting room is empty except for pixel Albert Einstein and a box of travel cards that has tipped over across the departures board. Every card has a twin somewhere on the board, and the stationmaster has promised that the train will not leave until each one is paired. The porters have a name for this puzzle: the Thought Express.

A thought, pixel Einstein likes to say, is like a train: once it gets going, every carriage pulls the next. Find pairs one after another without a slip and the points climb like a train picking up speed, but one wrong card stops it at the next station. Each cleared board brings a longer one, and when the clock runs out the doors close. How far can this train of thought travel?
