Coilwing

Test-fly electric wings through a thunderstorm. Fly a pair of humming electric wings through a thunderstorm over the city with pixel Nikola Tesla. Tap to climb, thread the gaps between copper coil towers, power pylons and glass insulators and catch glowing light bulbs in this free one-tap flying game.

Twist: The coil on his back pulls in nearby light bulbs by itself, and the storm sky is full of them.

Parody. Nikola Tesla has no involvement in making these games and does not endorse them. The character is an original pixel-art caricature.

How to play

  1. The Coilwing works like a magnet: fly close to a glowing light bulb and it zips over to pixel Tesla on its own, worth 25 points. Bulbs turn up more often here, so skim near them rather than chasing each one.
  2. Tap, click, or press Space / Up arrow to pulse the wings and climb a little. Stop and gravity takes over.
  3. Thread the gap between each pair of coil towers, pylons or insulator stacks for 10 points apiece.
  4. A tower or the street below shorts the flight out. As the storm builds, the gaps shrink, the wind gets faster and some towers start to bob up and down.
  5. M switches the sound, P or Esc pauses the storm, and your score can be shared once you land.

The story

For months the workshop has been full of brass ribs, stretched canvas and very long sheets of calculations. The result is the Coilwing: a pair of wings powered by a small coil on the back, which, in theory, drinks energy straight from the air. In theory. There is only one way to find out, and tonight the air over the city is full of it, because the biggest thunderstorm of the year has just rolled in.

Pixel Nikola Tesla buttons his coat, steps off the laboratory roof and the wings crackle into life. The rooftops are crowded with coil towers, the new power pylons march across the skyline and stacks of glass insulators rise between them, each pair leaving a narrow gap to fly through. Glowing light bulbs drift in the rain, little proofs that the idea works. The storm grows wilder the further he goes. How long can the future stay in the air?
