Tempo Twins

Match the instruments on the beat. Sort the instrument cards in an opera house orchestra pit with pixel Mozart. Turn two cards at a time, pair the violins, trumpets, harps and metronomes, and land your pairs on the beat in this free memory game.

Twist: Turn your second card on the beat of the music and the pair scores double points.

Parody. Mozart has no involvement in making these games and does not endorse them. The character is an original pixel-art caricature.

How to play

  1. Click or tap a card to turn it over, or move the cursor with the arrows (WASD) and press Space or Enter. Turn two cards: if they match, they stay face up.
  2. Keep the beat: a pair found on the beat of the music scores double. A light at the top of the screen blinks with every beat, so turn your second card as it flashes.
  3. Each pair is worth 20 points, plus 5 for every level. A cleared grid adds 50 points and 5 more for each second left, then a bigger grid is dealt.
  4. Two different cards turn back after a moment, so try to remember them. The round ends when the clock reaches zero.
  5. M switches sound, P or Esc pauses, and you can share your score at the end.

The story

The curtain rises in one hour, and the orchestra pit of the opera house is a muddle of stands, chairs and cards. Every player has to sit next to a partner with the same instrument, but the seating cards have been dealt face down. Pixel Mozart, baton tucked under one arm, takes charge of the reshuffle the musicians have nicknamed Tempo Twins.

He cannot help keeping time while he works. The rehearsal music plays on, a little light blinks with every beat, and a pair turned exactly on the beat earns double. Pairs off the beat still count, just less. Every finished section brings a bigger one to seat, and when the clock runs out the curtain goes up. How many sections can pixel Mozart seat in time?
