Masterpiece Math

Paint the portrait one quick sum at a time. Paint a portrait with quick mental math starring pixel Leonardo da Vinci. Solve sums before each countdown runs out, build a streak and reveal the smiling masterpiece in this free math game.

Twist: Every question is written backwards in mirror writing, like the notebooks of the real Leonardo.

Parody. Leonardo da Vinci has no involvement in making these games and does not endorse them. The character is an original pixel-art caricature.

How to play

  1. The question is in mirror writing, flipped left to right like the notebooks of the real Leonardo. The answer buttons are written the normal way.
  2. Tip: read the flipped sum from right to left. The digits look odd at first, but a 3 is still a 3 once you get used to it.
  3. Every right answer paints a new band of the portrait. Answer quickly for extra points and keep going for a streak that multiplies your score.
  4. One wrong answer, or a timer bar that runs out, smudges the paint and ends the round. Times tables and two-digit numbers arrive as the canvas fills.
  5. Start with a tap or Space and answer with a tap or the keys 1, 2, 3 and 4. Finish the canvas to reveal the mysterious smile.
  6. M toggles sound, P or Esc pauses the game, and the share button shows off your masterpiece.

The story

A patron is coming to collect a portrait first thing in the morning, and pixel Leonardo da Vinci has, as usual, spent the whole month inventing other things. The canvas is on the easel, the paints are mixed and there is just one night left to finish it. Tonight's challenge has a name: Masterpiece Math.

Every correct answer adds a new band of colour to the canvas, every streak makes the brush move faster and a single wrong answer smudges the paint. Fill in the whole picture and a mysterious smile appears. Leave it half done and the patron will just have to wait, which people around Leonardo are quite used to.
