Lighthouse Sums

Light the great lighthouse one quick sum at a time. Light the great lighthouse of Alexandria with quick mental math starring pixel Cleopatra. Solve sums before each countdown runs out, build a streak and send the beacon out to sea in this free math game.

Twist: The questions use everyday numbers, but every answer is carved in Roman numerals like XIV or XLII.

Parody. Cleopatra has no involvement in making these games and does not endorse them. The character is an original pixel-art caricature.

How to play

  1. The question is written in normal numbers, but the four answers are Roman numerals: work out the sum, then find it written the old way (14 is XIV, 42 is XLII).
  2. Quick reminder: I is 1, V is 5, X is 10, L is 50 and C is 100. A smaller letter in front of a bigger one is taken away, so IX is 9 and XL is 40.
  3. Each right answer lights one more floor of the lighthouse. Answer fast for more points and keep a streak going for STREAK X2, X3 or X4.
  4. Every question has its own shrinking timer bar. A wrong pick or an empty bar puts the flames out, and the sums climb from simple additions to times tables and two-digit numbers.
  5. Tap a button or press 1 to 4 to answer. M switches the sound, P or Esc pauses, and at the end you can share how high the fire reached.

The story

Night is falling over Alexandria, a fleet of ships is waiting outside the harbour and the keepers of the great lighthouse have all come down with a cold. Pixel Cleopatra watches from her palace balcony and decides that the light will not stay dark on her watch. This is Lighthouse Sums.

Every correct answer lights another floor of the tower, every streak makes the flames burn brighter and a single wrong answer lets the wind blow them out. Light the whole lighthouse and the beacon sweeps across the sea to guide every ship home. Stop halfway, and the sailors will have to wait for sunrise.
