Clockwork Ducklings

Lead a line of wind-up wooden ducklings to market. Lead a line of little wind-up wooden ducklings across a sunny Renaissance piazza on market day with pixel Leonardo da Vinci. Steer with the arrows or a swipe, collect pots of paint to grow the line and never bump into the stone balustrade or your own ducklings in this free snake game.

Twist: Every paint pot splashes a wet blot on the piazza, and the blots block your way until they dry.

Parody. Leonardo da Vinci has no involvement in making these games and does not endorse them. The character is an original pixel-art caricature.

How to play

  1. Each pot of paint you pick up splashes a wet blot somewhere on the piazza. A blot blocks its square for 10 seconds; running into one ends the show.
  2. Blots blink just before they dry, so you can plan a path through a square that is about to clear.
  3. A pot is 10 points and paints one more wooden duckling for the line, which waddles a little faster each time.
  4. Every 5 pots a golden winding key gleams for 6 seconds. Pick it up for 50 points.
  5. The stone balustrade and your own ducklings end the round as well, and pixel Leonardo can never turn straight back.
  6. Steer with the arrow keys, WASD or swipes. M switches the sound, P or Esc pauses, and you can share your score at the end.

The story

It is market day in the piazza, and pixel Leonardo da Vinci has brought his newest toy invention to show the market crowd: a wooden duckling on little wheels with a tiny spring inside that waddles wherever he walks. Wind one up and it follows him. Wind up the next and it follows the first. Soon the whole square is watching a tiny parade that the crowd names the Clockwork Ducklings.

Every pot of paint he picks up gives one more bare wooden duckling a bright coat of yellow or blue, and it waddles off to join the back of the line, which speeds up a little each time. A low stone balustrade rings the piazza, so one wrong turn ends the show, and so does tripping over his own ducklings. Now and then a golden winding key gleams on the bricks for a few seconds, worth a special bonus. How long can the line get before the market closes?
