High on the green slopes of a Galápagos island, a clutch of baby giant tortoises has hatched far from the cactus groves where they should be feeding. Pixel Charles Darwin, notebook tucked under one arm, decides there is only one thing to do: walk in front and hope they follow. They do, in a perfect single file, and the walk gets a name in his notebook: Tortoise Trail.
Every prickly-pear pad on the way brings another hungry hatchling to the back of the line, and the parade grows longer and a little faster with every snack. Black lava rock rings the meadow, so one wrong turn ends the stroll, and so does stepping on the tail of the very line he is leading. Now and then a rare finch lands for a moment, worth a special page in the notebook. How long can the line get before lunch?
